As a matter of fact, I have been permitted to choose my own words and discuss my own ideas regarding the choice that we face in the next few weeks.
I have spent most of my life as a Democrat. I recently have seen fit to follow another course. I believe that the issues confronting us cross party lines. Now, one side in this campaign has been telling us that the issues of this election are the maintenance of peace and prosperity. The line has been used, "We've never had it so good."
But I have an uncomfortable feeling that this prosperity isn't something on which we can base our hopes for the future. No nation in history has ever survived a tax burden that reached a third of its national income. Today, 37 cents out of every dollar earned in this country is the tax collector's share, and yet our government continues to spend 17 million dollars a day more than the government takes in. We haven't balanced our budget 28 out of the last 34 years. We've raised our debt limit three times in the last twelve months, and now our national debt is one and a half times bigger than all the combined debts of all the nations of the world. We have 15 billion dollars in gold in our treasury; we don't own an ounce. Foreign dollar claims are 27.3 billion dollars. And we've just had announced that the dollar of 1939 will now purchase 45 cents in its total value.
As for the peace that we would preserve, I wonder who among us would like to approach the wife or mother whose husband or son has died in South Vietnam and ask them if they think this is a peace that should be maintained indefinitely. Do they mean peace, or do they mean we just want to be left in peace? There can be no real peace while one American is dying some place in the world for the rest of us. We're at war with the most dangerous enemy that has ever faced mankind in his long climb from the swamp to the stars, and it's been said if we lose that war, and in so doing lose this way of freedom of ours, history will record with the greatest astonishment that those who had the most to lose did the least to prevent its happening. Well I think it's time we ask ourselves if we still know the freedoms that were intended for us by the Founding Fathers.
Not too long ago, two friends of mine were talking to a Cuban refugee, a businessman who had escaped from Castro, and in the midst of his story one of my friends turned to the other and said, "We don't know how lucky we are." And the Cuban stopped and said, "How lucky you are? I had someplace to escape to." And in that sentence he told us the entire story. If we lose freedom here, there's no place to escape to. This is the last stand on earth.
And this idea that government is beholden to the people, that it has no other source of power except the sovereign people, is still the newest and the most unique idea in all the long history of man's relation to man.
This is the issue of this election: Whether we believe in our capacity for self-government or whether we abandon the American revolution and confess that a little intellectual elite in a far-distant capitol can plan our lives for us better than we can plan them ourselves.
You and I are told increasingly we have to choose between a left or right. Well I'd like to suggest there is no such thing as a left or right. There's only an up or down -- [up] man's old -- old-aged dream, the ultimate in individual freedom consistent with law and order, or down to the ant heap of totalitarianism. And regardless of their sincerity, their humanitarian motives, those who would trade our freedom for security have embarked on this downward course.
Traditional Chinese culture is beginning to capture the attention of the world.
This is true even as popular culture that has traditionally been considered Western begins to spread throughout China.
Kung Fu, especially, has had a great impact on the millions of people who first learned about China through it.
From that, they may come to China and learn about other aspects of this culture, such as traditional operas like the Beijing and Sichuan ones.
Asian nations have long known about the greatneof ancient Chinese culture.
Their own cultures are a mix of native ones and those Chinese characteristics.
Korea and Japan long ago adopted ideas such as Confucianism is something that continues today even as it is challenged by Pop Culture.
This strength comes from the ideas given in the Four Books of Confucianism (The Great Learning, The Doctrine of the Mean, The Analects of Confucius, and The Book of Mencius).
These books built upon the ideas of an even more ancient period codified in the Five Classics.
From them, the West learns such things as Fengshui and other concepts that are uniquely Chinese.
China has taken steps to further this spread of its culture by establishing Chinese Cultural Centers in such places as the United States and Europe

But I want to jump up to shallow water now and look at some creatures that are positively amazing。Cephalopods —— head—foots。 As a kid I knew them as calamari, mostly。 (Laughter) This is an octopus —— this is the work of Dr。 Roger Hanlon at the Marine Biological Lab —— and it's just fascinating how cephalopods can, with their incredible eyes, sense their surroundings, look at light, look at patterns。 Here's an octopus moving across the reef, finds a spot to settle down, curls up and then disappears into the background。 Tough thing to do。

It is always an exciting day in New Year Eve as the majority of people in the world are in very good mood of celebrating New Year. There are numerous New Year parties around the globe where many children are re-united with their families, young couples are together with their newborns, grandparents are taking their opportunities to spend some quality time with their own children as well as grandchildren. And the list goes on and on.
Just what exactly is New Year Eve? In my own view, I think there are two sets of meaning.
First, New Year Eve represents hope and a new start of the year. Hope is important to mankind. The symbolic meaning encourages us to put all our bad luck behind us as we look forward to a fresh start from the first day of the year.
Second, New Year Eve represents bonding between mankind. This important day grants all of us a chance to stay close to someone we love dearly. As we spend time with them, perhaps, we ask them how they are doing lately, or we find other ways to show someones how much we care for them.
What else do we get out of New Year Eve? Joy is the feel good factor. It means we enjoy being with someone. And joy is something that money can not buy in this world.

In recent years, college students find it increasingly difficult to get a job. It sounds strange since young college students are usually intelligent, well-educated phenomenon, aspirant and eager to bring their talent into full play. Then what underlies the strange phenomenon? high. All they want are “good” jobs which could offer good salary, comfortable working conditions, high social status among others. Consequently, most college students are unwilling to accept vacant jobs they consider not “good” enough. Another reason is that there is a big gap between the majors some students study in school and the demands of vacant jobs. So companies think some students are not fit for the jobs.
Solution to the problem requires efforts on both the society and the students. The companies should value the students, talent and knowledge while the latter should not merely aim at material gains. They should be down-to–earth in building up their career. Furthermore, they should face their weak points so as to improve themselves and be more competent.
1.Agree or disagree: There is nothing that young people could teach old people.
In ancient times, young people should never teach old people. Old people know much more than young because they have undergone many things in their life. They lead us to the right way. Sometimes, it regarded impolite for young to teach old. But that does not mean young people really have nothing to teach old people, especially in this high-developed times. Young people usually learn things fast and learn more. They always have a smart head for new things. Therefore, young people can teach the olds how to use computer and cellphone, how to dance and so on. Also, I think old people can learn younger passion and energetic for life. That will be a good thing.
2.Should pets be allowed in university dormitories?
In my opinion, by no means should pets be allowed in dormitories. To be honest, I've been thinking in my mind to have a pet in my dorm. Lovely pets will bring much joy to our daily life. But I eventually didn't do that. Why? Because it is something selfish and irresponsible. Dormitory is a place where several people live together. To a certain degree, it is a public place. We can't just comply with our own desire while ignore other roommates?feeling. Having a pet in dorm can be troublesome or even annoying. It may make the room dirty and even in a mess. What't worse, some people are allergic to certain animals. Also, people's rest can be guaranteed. Some people may say that we could choose a mild and little pet such as fishes. In this case, if your roommates don't reject, I think it is acceptable.

Man’s life is a process of growing up, actually I’m standing here is a growth. If a person’s life must constituted by various choices, then I grow up along with these choices. Once I hope I can study in a college in future, however that’s passed, as you know I come here, now I wonder what the future holds for (= what will happen to) me.
When I come to this school, I told to myself: this my near future, all starts here. Following I will learn to become a man, a integrated man, who has a fine body, can take on important task, has independent thought, an open mind, intensive thought, has the ability to judge right and wrong, has a perfect job.
Once my teacher said :” you are not sewing, you are stylist; never forget which you should lay out to people is your thought, not craft.” I will put my personality with my interest and ability into my study, during these process I will combine learning with doing. I would like to share with you a true story about Nicholas James Vujicic.He was born with Tetra-amelia, a rare disorder characterized by the absence ofall four limbs. He is widely known as a motivational speaker, giving talksworldwide on life with a disability, hope, and finding meaning in life.
He was bullied at school, Vujicic grew depressed and by the age of 8,contemplated suicide. At age 10, he tried to drown himself in 4 inches of water,but did not go through with it out of love for his parents. After praying togrow arms and legs, Vujicic eventually realized that his accomplishments couldinspire others – and became grateful for his life. A key turning point came whenhis mother showed him a newspaper article about a man dealing with a severedisability. Vujicic realized he wasn't unique in his struggles and began toembrace and transcend his disability.
This man, the soldier of life, came to my hometown 2 months ago. I got tolisten to him, and talk to him, face to face. I could never forget the look inhis face when he said “when I was young, I always feel cold, and dark. My firstdream was to grow arms and legs, but there is no future for me at all. ” Andnow, 28 years has passed since he was born, 28 years without arms and legs.Nick’s first dream didn't come true, but he didn't lose his faith of himself,and the faith of this life.
Nick is living a life without limbs, and also a life without limits.Compare to him, young people, there is no excuses to lose our faith in ourselvesand this world. I understand that life couldn't be anything we want it to be,and life couldn't bring us everything we long for, sometimes, life even takesaway our cherished ones.
