A survey about smokers in a middle school tells that although 90% of all students never smoke, 3% of them often smoke and 7% sometimes do. In other words, 10% of the students smoke. That’s terrible.
As we know, smoking is harmful to our health. Every year, thousands of people lose their lives because of it. Smoking not only does harm to your health, but also wastes money. Because, a fire may be caused by cigarette ends. It’s a pity to learn that one ends in death by smoking.
In all, smoking is so dangerous that we should keep away from it.
There is a forest, where the trees flourish, the forest green grass, flowers ... ... animals are free to live with. Later, near the residents, theybegan to cut down trees, killing animals, the forest can be seen everywhere baretrees, many animals lost their homes, and even their loved ones. The barrenearth is crying, and the animals that have lost their loved ones are bothgrieving and angry, and decide to arrest the murderers who destroy their homesand hurt their loved ones.
One day, someone went to the forest to cut down the trees and killed theanimals. Had long been ambush animals rushed out, the "murderer" surrounded. This person scared to leave the hands of the tools, trembling, cold sweatstraight. One of the animals proposed to the "murderer" for public trial. So, aforest trial conference began.
Lamb first statement: "human greed to chaos to kill the killing, resultingin a large area of soil erosion, we sheep lost a good home and the survival ofthe grass ... ..." a bird said: "human chaos cut Let us homeless, human chaoskill let us lose loved ones ... ... "Tiger said angrily:" human deforestation sothat we have no place to live, their chaos kill us to become endangered Species... ... "the animals you a word I am in a way to count the heinous crimescommitted by mankind, the trial of this person feel shame and shame to ask:" howwill you deal with me? "The judge elephant said: See you have the meaning ofrepentance, right and spare you, go back and tell you the same kind: to protectthe ecological balance of nature, not for their own time and destruction of theecological environment, or suffer not only our animals and vegetation, you humanThey will be punished ... ... "
The "murderer" was released, decided to repent their own behavior, andactively promote the concept of environmental protection, and activelyparticipate in various environmental activities. A few years later, this foresthas resumed the prosperity of the past, the animals have lived a free life.
With the improvement of our living standard, more and more people canafford a car。 As a result, our roads are more often than not crammed with cars。However, with more and more waste gas being discharged by the cars, the problemof air pollution bees even more serious。 So nowadays we advocate to lead alow-carbon life。
My suggestion is we should ride bikes more often instead of driving cars。Byriding a bike, we can not only exercise our body but also protect ourenvironment。 Why not have a try, my dear friends?
With the development of our society, energy in the world bees more and morelimited, so it is quite important for us to save energy and to protect ourenvironment。 As a student, there are a lot of methods we can do to save energyat home。 For example, first, we can turn off the light as well as otherappliances when we are not using them。 Second, recycle the waste water, paperand other waste so that we can reuse them。 What's more, it is suggested to usepublic transportation more instead of private cars。
Above all, everyone can make a great contribution to our environment。 Ihope I can learn more to develop new and clear energy, like energy from the windand solar。
Environmental problems are as big as not for individual country orindividual people to address。 In other word, we have reached the stage thatenvironmental problems be solved for international view。 To what extent do youagree or disagree?
In recent years, many nations have bee more aware of the environmentalissues each nation faces, such as air and water pollution。 The question is, arethe environmental issues a national problem or an international problem? It ismy belief that the environmental issues have grown to the point of being aninternational problem needing international cooperation to resolve。
Because of the differences in environmental policies, resources andtechnology, international cooperation could provide quicker results and have agreater impact on bringing resolution to environmental problems for nations ofdiffering environmental policies and of lesser resources and technology。 Bypooling international resources and technology to address the environmentalproblems, the disadvantaged nations are provided the assistance needed。Otherwise their environmental conditions deteriorate ultimately affecting theresources and environment of the world as a whole。
One of the difficulities to an international resolution to environmentalissues is the difference in individual nations view and policies towardenvironmental protection。 In order for international cooperation to occur andsucceed, the nations of the world must submit themselved to internationalstandards and supervision by an international mission elected by theparticipating nations of the world。 All members must agree to abide by thestandards established。
The environmental issues facing each country are not unrelated to the wellbeing of the rest of the world。 The impact is long term and international inscope。 Without international cooperation and agreement to address suchenvironmental issues as glacial melting at the South Pole, depletion of theozone layer, water pollution, air polution, etc。, the environmental conditionsof the world will deteriorate to the detriment of every nation, not just thosethat ignore or lack the resources and technology to resolve their individualenvironmental problems。
As part of the same planet, it is the responsibility of each individual andnation to protect the global environment。 Only international cooperation willprovide the timely solutions and the effectiveness needed to stop thedeteriorating global environment。
In my memory, though my hometown is a small village, it is very beautiful. When I was small, I liked to caught fish in the river, the water was so cleanthat I could see the fish. As I miss my hometown so much, last week, I went backto my hometown, I found the place in my memory was not like what it was. Thetrees were not that numerous, the roads became bigger, while there was lessplace for the river, I saw some dead fish in the river, the water was dirty, theriver pollution was so serious! I couldn't believe it, the beautiful hometownwas destroyed by the pollution, it is people's ambition results in it, theychase for the profit at the cost of polluting the environment. I wish people canpay attention to protect the environment, they are saving themselves, too.
dear students, our way of life is always sunny, blue skies, which in the end the most dazzling ray of sunlight? it was said to be excellent academic performance, it was said to be given to help others ... ... and i think that our way of life of the most brilliant sunshine should be reported to belong to the temple map, help us to grow thanks to everyone. yes, the institute of thanksgiving is a feeling, the institute of thanksgiving, but also a character. as teachers and our students, the most important gratitude is a school. schools to give us a big growth stage of life: bright and spacious classrooms, new desks and chairs, air-conditioned and well-being, as well as multi-media facilities, has provided us with an attractive learning environment. read one book bright and clean rooms, provides us with knowledge of the marine tour; flat beautiful big playground, provided us with a good place for the exercise, and pottery room, computer room, dance room, multi-purpose hall, and so on, no school is not out of devotion to our selfless love! however, in these beautiful places, often with some notes of discord. read books in one room, some students read the book, abandonment, i do not know the original release, there is more tear, using the phenomenon of the book; when the red and green and white artificial big playground to open it selfless embrace, and some of the scenes of discord hurt our eyes: a wide range of confetti, colorfu

In my 18 years of life, there have been many things. University days are the best part of them. I can never forget the days when I stepped into my university. I was impressed by its garden'like campus, its enthusiastic students and especially its learning atmosphere. I at once fell in love with it.
After the arduous military training, I get absolutely absorbed in my studies. The classes given by the teachers are excellent. They provide us with information not only from our textbooks but from many other sources as well. They easily arouse my insatiable desire to take in as much as I can.
Frankly speaking, at first I had some difficulty following the teachers. However, through my own efforts and thanks to my teachers' guidance, I made remarkable progress. Now I've benefited a lot from lectures and many other academic reports.
Learning is a long process; I'll keep exploring in the treasure house of knowledge to enrich myself. This summer I got out of the ivory tower and entered the real world. A publishing house offered me a part'time job in compilation and revision.
Finally, standing here at the threshold of the 21st century, we cannot help thinking of our posterity. Nature is not only the mother of the present generation, but also the mother of the generations to come. How severely our descendents will criticize us if we leave them a barren and lifeless mother? How much more they will appreciate us if we give them a world of harmony to inherit? Let us start respecting and caring for nature from now on. Let us start the campaign of creating a mutually beneficial relationship between people and nature right from this moment. With this new start, I firmly believe, that our children, and our children's children will live in a brand new age of green trees, clean air, crystal water, blue sky and an even more promising world!
We want to hold a green Olympic Games ,so everyone should do somethinguseful to protect the environment ,whether it is big or small.

Throughout history man has changed his physical environment in order toimprove his way of life。 With the tools of technology he has altered manyphysical features of the earth。 He has transformed woodlands and prairies intofarms and made lakes and reserviors out of rivers for irrigation purposes orhydroelectric power。 Man has also modified the face of the earth by drainingmarshes and cutting through mountains to build roads and railways。
However, man's changes to the physical environment have not always hadbeneficial results。 Today, pollution of the air and water is an increasingdanger to the health of the planet。 Each day thousands of tons of gases e out ofthe exhausts of motor vehicles。 Smoke from factories pollutes the air ofindustrialized areas and the surrounding areas of the countryside。 The pollutionof water is equally harmful。 The whole ecological balance of the sea is beingchanged and industrial wastes have already made many rivers lifeless。
Now environmental protection is more pressing than ever before。 As we know, massive destruction of environment has brought about negative effects and evenposes a great threat to man's existence。 Indifference to these problems willmean mitting suicide。 Therefore, effective measures should be taken and lawspassed to conserve environment。 Otherwise, man is certain to suffer from theserious consequences caused by this lack of care for his livingsurroundings。
hello everyone!
This year's November 9 is fire awareness day. The theme of this activity is "enhancing the fire safety responsibility and fire safety awareness of the whole people". When it comes to fire fighting, students will naturally think of the creepy word "fire". For the primary school students in our campus, how to escape and save themselves in case of fire? To solve this problem, fire experts introduced the ten methods of escape and self rescue in case of fire in public gathering places.
Please listen carefully:
First, we should understand and be familiar with the environment. When you walk into shopping malls, hotels, restaurants, song and dance halls and other public places, you should pay attention to the location of emergency exits, emergency exits and fire extinguishers, so as to evacuate and extinguish fire in time in case of accidents. Second, evacuate quickly. Once you hear the fire alarm or realize that you are surrounded by fire, you should immediately try to evacuate.
Third, protect the respiratory system. Towel or napkin cloth, mask, clothes, etc. can be used to cover the mouth and nose tightly during escape, otherwise there will be the risk of poisoning and suffocation of respiratory system soft tissue burned by hot air. Fourth, evacuate from the passageway. Such as evacuation stairs, fire elevators, outdoor evacuation stairs, etc. Windows, balconies, roofs, lightning wires, downpipes, etc. can also be considered for escape.
Fifth, use ropes to slide. Use a strong rope or tear the curtains, sheets and bedding into strips, screw them into ropes, wet them with water, and tie them to the firm heating pipes, window frames and bedsteads. The trapped people slide one by one along the rope to the next floor or ground.
The sixth floor is the low floor jump off, which is applicable to the second floor. Before jumping, throw some soft items such as quilts, pillows, mattresses and coats to the ground for "soft landing", and then hold the window with your hands, droop and slide naturally, so as to shorten the jumping height.
Seventh, we should use equipment. Commonly used are descent device, life bag, net, air cushion, soft ladder, slide rod, slide platform, guide rope, life-saving gangway, etc.
8. Temporary asylum. When there is no way to escape, the toilet can be used to temporarily make it difficult. When taking refuge, spray the fire doors and windows with water to wet all combustibles in the room and prolong the time. During the period of temporary asylum, take the initiative to contact the outside world in order to be rescued as soon as possible.
9. Using signs to guide people out of danger. Signs such as "emergency exit", "emergency exit", "safety passage", "fire alarm telephone" and brief escape direction are set on the walls, ceilings, doors and corners of public places. The trapped people can escape in order according to the direction indicated by the signs, which can solve the "urgent need".
10. we should promote self-interest. We should resolutely stop the behavior of disregarding the life and death of others and the phenomenon of front hugging and back crowding. Only orderly and rapid evacuation can minimize casualties.
There are still a lot of common sense about fire safety. Please log in to "China fire protection network" and other relevant websites at home or with the permission of your computer teacher this week to learn more about fire safety.
Thank you!
I speak tonight for the dignity of man and the destiny of democracy. I urge every member of both parties, Americans of all religions and of all colors, from every section of this country, to join me in that cause.
At times history and fate meet at a single time in a single place to shape a turning point in mans unending search for freedom. So it was at Lexington and Concord. So it was a century ago at Appomattox. So it was last week in Selma, Alabama. There, long-suffering men and women peacefully protested the denial of their rights as Americans. Many were brutally assaulted. One good man, a man of God, was killed.
There is no cause for pride in what has happened in Selma. There is no cause for self-satisfaction in the long denial of equal rights of millions of Americans. But there is cause for hope and for faith in our democracy in what is happening here tonight. For the cries of pain and the hymns and protests of oppressed people have summoned into convocation all the majesty of this great government -- the government of the greatest nation on earth. Our mission is at once the oldest and the most basic of this country: to right wrong, to do justice, to serve man.
In our time we have come to live with the moments of great crisis. Our lives have been marked with debate about great issues -- issues of war and peace, issues of prosperity and depression. But rarely in any time does an issue lay bare the secret heart of America itself. Rarely are we met with a challenge, not to our growth or abundance, or our welfare or our security, but rather to the values, and the purposes, and the meaning of our beloved nation.
The issue of equal rights for American Negroes is such an issue.
And should we defeat every enemy, and should we double our wealth and conquer the stars, and still be unequal to this issue, then we will have failed as a people and as a nation. For with a country as with a person, "What is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"
There is no Negro problem. There is no Southern problem. There is no Northern problem. There is only an American problem. And we are met here tonight as Americans -- not as Democrats or Republicans. We are met here as Americans to solve that problem.
This was the first nation in the history of the world to be founded with a purpose. The great phrases of that purpose still sound in every American heart, North and South: "All men are created equal," "government by consent of the governed," "give me liberty or give me death." Well, those are not just clever words, or those are not just empty theories. In their name Americans have fought and died for two centuries, and tonight around the world they stand there as guardians of our liberty, risking their lives.
Those words are a promise to every citizen that he shall share in the dignity of man. This dignity cannot be found in a mans possessions; it cannot be found in his power, or in his position. It really rests on his right to be treated as a man equal in opportunity to all others. It says that he shall share in freedom, he shall choose his leaders, educate his children, provide for his family according to his ability and his merits as a human being. To apply any other test -- to deny a man his hopes because of his color, or race, or his religion, or the place of his birth is not only to do injustice, it is to deny America and to dishonor the dead who gave their lives for American freedom.
Our fathers believed that if this noble view of the rights of man was to flourish, it must be rooted in democracy. The most basic right of all was the right to choose your own leaders. The history of this country, in large measure, is the history of the expansion of that right to all of our people. Many of the issues of civil rights are very complex and most difficult. But about this there can and should be no argument.
Every American citizen must have an equal right to vote.
There is no reason which can excuse the denial of that right. There is no duty which weighs more heavily on us than the duty we have to ensure that right.
One day I saw a comic book on the extracurricular book, with a lot ofstumps on a slippery hillside, a man sitting on a stump, smoking, and an axbeside the stump, and a bird flew over it, Finally, it was finally found, in theyoung man's head security of a nest. After reading this comic, I was in acontemplation ... ...
Where is the bird's home? Why can not it find his own home? The bird isspiritual, and it clearly remembers that it is here, and here is their happyparadise. Where the birds are here, how happy are they, and how old are they, and the trees are turned into the stumps, and the birds are gone. Paradise isthe ignorant villagers who are ignorant of their own interests, they are theculprit of killing the birds happy.Human ah, quickly wake up. If the world isnot green trees and flowers, not this lively and lovely Of the birds accompaniedby my life will be how much lonely, how much monotonous ah!
Yes, ah, these deforestation phenomenon is less? But, who knows? Earth onlyone, it is our beautiful home, we want to protect it, cherish her? With thecurrent statistics, China's forest area In the world ranked fifth, ranking 119.But people dare to be pleased that: we Jiangyin people's environmental awarenessis stronger than the park, community, roads and other places are full of trees, from afar, Like a green Pei Tsui, shiny, beautiful. Into each town of Jiangyin, are tree-lined, as if into the green ocean.
I think: if everyone is kind of a tree, a flower, then how beautiful theearth mother will be, how charming! At that time, every corner of the world, there will be birds singing butterflies in the dancing, bees day and night YeHao, honey, human ah, let us hands together, hands together to become a realityit! Yes, afforestation can shelter; is afforestation can absorb noise; Yes,afforestation can give small animals A happy home, so that they grow freely, multiply descendants ... ... human, all this depends on you, let us worktogether!
Humans, the earth's defense experts, you have to know: If there is only oneanimal in the world, then we are lonely, let us join hands to save the earthtogether, to protect the environment where human beings live! But there is onlyone, it is our beautiful home, we want to protect it, cherish her? With thecurrent statistics, China's forest area in the world ranked No. 1 in the world,Five, per capita ranking of 119. change want me to be safe to i want to be safe
i have read this report, a domestic company asked a
representative of the united states to conduct on-the-spot guidance. the representative of the united states has stood strong when he entered job location. he said:” all visitors to the site must wear safety helmet, i wear a helmet for my own safety.” after reading this story, i could not help applauding for his safety awareness.i want to be safe, so i will do risk analysis properly and seriously with my colleagues before work, this will root out incipient fault.
i want to be safe, so i will always remind my partners achieving three-no harm in the operations, because whoever comes out of the accident, we do have a kind of pain from his injury.
i want to be safe, so i work hard to strengthen my work skills, as it is the only way i will know what kind of work practice hiding security problems, i will learn to prepare and avoid accidents.of course, we emphasize and promote i want to be safedoes not negate“want me to be safe, but should pay attention to coordination and unity of both. if we only pay attention to i want to be safe, and fail to pay attention to want me to be safe , it is wrong, and the basis of production safety will not be solid, too.
The environment of the city is getting worse and worse today. There arewastes, air pollution and so on. What can we do to save our city? About thewastes, we should sort the wastes, to see if they can be recycle used; use thereusable shopping bag instead of the plastic bags. About the air pollution, weshould go to school on foot or by bike; we should also ask our family not to usecar as much as possible, take the subway or bus instead. I hope everyone can seethe environment problem and do the best to save our city.
honorable judges, distinguished guests, ladies and gentlemen:
it is a great honor and pleasure to be here on this beautiful saturday morning to share with you my sentiments about life and passion for the english language.
about a year and a half ago, i took part in my very first english speech contest. when i stood before the microphone with all eyes starring directly at me, i could hardly speak. i stood there, embarrassed and helpless, struggling in vain for the right thing to say. my fears had paralyzed me.
while my passion for english has never changed, i lost my courage to speak in public. when my professor again encouraged me to take part in this competition, i said “no.” i couldn’t endure yet another painful experience. he looked me straight in the eye and said something that pierced my heart. i will never forget his words. “look,” he said, “we all have our fears, and you have yours. you could twist your ankle in a basketball game, but then be afraid to ever play again. running away can never dispel your fears, but action will. a winner is not one who never fails, but one who never quits.”
i spent a whole day with his words twisting and turning in my mind. then i made the bravest and wisest decision of my life: i would face my fears –and take part in the competition!
as it turned out, my dear old professor was right. now, here i am, once again standing before a microphone. my heart is beating fast, and my mouth is dry, but most importantly, i have faced my fears -- and that makes all the difference!
keep your direction
what would you do if you failed? many people may choose to give up. however, the surest way to success is to keep your direction and stick to your goal.
on your way to success, you must keep your direction. it is just like a lamp, guiding you in darkness and helping you overcome obstacles on your way. otherwise, you will easily get lost or hesitate to go ahead.
direction means objectives. you can get nowhere without an objective in life.
you can try to write your objective on paper and make some plans to achieve it. in this way, you will know how to arrange your time and to spend your time properly. and you should also have a belief that you are sure to succeed as long as you keep your direction all the time.
WE'VE been hearing and talking about it for a fairly long time: curbingwhat has bee known as “white" pollution。 But still we are using the whitepolystyrene (PS) foam food containers and other disposable plastic products, which largely make up this form of littering。
Mbfanweng, a well-known local fast-food chain, is still handing outtakeout food in these PS foam containers, even though they should been phasedout before December 31, 20__, under a Central Government decree。 One of thewaiters said in its outlet on Hongli Road on Monday that they are going toswitch to environmentally friendly containers “some time in the future"。
However, the Mbfanweng outlet in Sam's Club, which is affiliated withWal-Mart, is offering take-out food in light brown containers which arebiodegradable。 Liang, a clerk with Sam's Club, told Shenzhen Daily yesterdaythat the club required the Mbfanweng outlet to do so in its contract。
According to Liang, all the departments in the club switched tobiodegradable containers during the Spring Festival holiday。
Zhao Hua, with the energy division of the Shenzhen Municipal EconomicDevelopment Bureau, one of the five municipal government departments involved inthe curbing of white pollution in the city, said on Monday that large panies andretailers like Wal-Mart and Vanguard have responded to the decree by switchingto biodegradable containers。 But she admitted that is just the tip of theiceberg in the seemingly endless war on white pollution in the city。
Zhao's bureau has met with four other relevant departments on severaloccasions。 What they produced is not a feasible solution but an echo orrewording of the Central Government decree, according to Luo Wei from ShenzhenMunicipal Legal Affairs Bureau, who is responsible for reviewing this “echo"。The ”echo" has now been passed on to the municipal government which is expectedto announce it formally in the near future。 But Luo said she's not sure if thisrewording can play a significant role in eliminating white pollution in thecity。 “We don't lack laws, regulations or decrees。 The real concern is theeffective enforcement of these laws or regulations," said Luo。
Zhao Hua admitted that cities like Shanghai and other coastal cities whichare sensitive about their image as tourist destinations are doing a better jobin this regard。 “Shanghai is said to have produced a very detailed handbook onhow to carry out the curbing work and Hainan has even banned disposable foamslippers in hotels," Zhao said。
Liu Guanqing, president of Shenzhen Xunbao Investment Development Co Ltd, alocal manufacturer of biodegradable food containers was very eager to hear themunicipal government's decision on the matter。 “Since early this year, I've seenorders fly in。 I'll expand production once the government announces its stanceon the issue。"

Xiao Liang is holding firecrackers on a bamboo pole in his left hand and a lighter in his right hand. Small bright light lighter ignite, put toward the line of firecracker. A little brighter. After that, Xiao Hong covered her ears with her hands and hid behind her brother. Firecrackers immediately sounded the sound of "crackling". Xiao Liang is running around, and her sister Xiao Hong is running around with her brother xiao Liang. Mother brought a small box, said to them: "This is your big red envelope, come and get it!"
Xiao Hong said to her brother Xiao Liang, "This is the happiest moment for our family!"
Thank you!
In the summer recess between freshman and sophomore years in college, I wasinvited to be an instructor at a high school leadership camp hosted by a collegein Michigan. I was already highly involved in most campus activities, and Ijumped at the opportunity.
About an hour into the first day of camp, amid the frenzy of icebreakersand forced interactions, I first noticed the boy under the tree. He was smalland skinny, and his obvious discomfort and shyness made him appear frail andfragile. Only 50 feet away, 200 eager campers were bumping bodies, playing, joking and meeting each other, but the boy under the tree seemed to want to beanywhere other than where he was. The desperate loneliness he radiated almoststopped me from approaching him, but I remembered the instructions from thesenior staff to stay alert for campers who might feel left out.
As I walked toward him I said, “Hi, my name is Kevin and I’m one of thecounselors. It’s nice to meet you. How are you?”
In a shaky, sheepish voice he reluctantly answered, “Okay, I guess.”
I calmly asked him if he wanted to join the activities and meet some newpeople. He quietly replied, “No, this is not really my thing.”
I could sense that he was in a new world, that this whole experience wasforeign to him. But I somehow knew it wouldn’t be right to push him, either. Hedidn’t need a pep talk, he needed a friend. After several silent moments, myfirst interaction with the boy under the tree was over.
At lunch the next day, I found myself leading camp songs at the top of mylungs for 200 of my new friends. The campers were eagerly participated. My gazewandered over the mass of noise and movement and was caught by the image of theboy from under the tree, sitting alone, staring out the window. I nearly forgotthe words to the song I was supposed to be leading. At my first opportunity, Itried again, with the same questions as before: “How are you doing? Are youokay?”
To which he again replied, “Yeah, I’m all right. I just don’t really getinto this stuff. ”
As I left the cafeteria, I too realized this was going to take more timeand effort than I had thought — if it was even possible to get through to him atall.
That evening at our nightly staff meeting, I made my concerns about himknown. I explained to my fellow staff members my impression of him and askedthem to pay special attention and spend time with him when they could.
The days I spend at camp each year fly by faster than any others I haveknown. Thus, before I knew it, mid-week had dissolved into the final night ofcamp and I was chaperoning the “last dance”. The students were doing all theycould to savor every last moment with their new “best friends” — friends theywould probably never see again.
As I watched the campers share their parting moments, I suddenly saw whatwould be one of the most vivid memories of my life. The boy from under the tree, who stared blankly out the kitchen window, was now a shirtless dancing wonder. He owned the dance floor as he and two girls proceeded to cut up a rug. Iwatched as he shared meaningful, intimate time with people at whom he couldn’teven look just days earlier. I couldn’t believe it was him. In October of mysophomore year, a late-night phone call pulled me away from my chemistry book. Asoft-spoken, unfamiliar voice asked politely, “Is Kevin there?”
“You’re talking to him. Who’s this?”
“This is Tom Johnson’s mom. Do you remember Tommy from leadership camp?”
The boy under the tree. How could I not remember? “Yes, I do”, I said.“He’s a very nice young man. How is he?”
An abnormally long pause followed, then Mrs. Johnson said, “My Tommy waswalking home from school this week when he was hit by a car and killed.”Shocked, I offered my condolences.
“I just wanted to call you”, she said, “because Tommy mentioned you so manytimes. I wanted you to know that he went back to school this fall withconfidence. He made new friends. His grades went up. And he even went out on afew dates. I just wanted to thank you for making a difference for Tom. The lastfew months were the best few months of his life.”
In that instant, I realized how easy it is to give a bit of yourself everyday. You may never know how much each gesture may mean to someone else. I tellthis story as often as I can, and when I do, I urge others to look out for theirown “boy under the tree.”
What we cannot afford to lose
We cannot lose innovation
There is a wonderful word which expresses the most original motions and desires among human-beings. With solving any kind of imperfections, our world has moved ahead. This is the word “innovation” that we cannot afford to lose.
We chicaned every detail of the innovation. Thousands years before, we created fire when we took a stone to knock another one. Since Han Dynasty, four great inventions had been created and it is one of the greatest signs that China become to the ancient civilized country. And nowadays, thousands of software, products, architectures and public facilities have upgraded more than that about 100 years ago. So how did these happen? What will you do if you are not satisfied with your tools anymore? What will you do if old mode cannot afford to develop in a company? There is no doubt that we should innovate no matter where we are and what we do. Not because of the design itself, but actually for its intended purpose.
If there was no Apple, everyone could not imagine how to contact others easily and enjoy a better Internet surfing.
If there was no Microsoft, perhaps we still worked in a dim office and duplicate some troublesome documents. If there was no Newton, and no theory of gravity, maybe I will win the Nobel Prize like Newton rather than just standing here. I have heard that three apple changed the world. The first one seduced Eve. The second one awakened Newton. The third one was in the hands of Steve Jobs. We sort of think the innovation of the world began with apple. I imagine lots of people want to become another Newton or Jobs right now with just one hand to change the world, right? Have the innovation to follow your heart. It somehow already reflects what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary.
Via questioning, we can start to innovate. Via innovating, we can start to create better lives. No innovation, no improvement. No improvement, no success. And no success, no civilization. Now, our time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life! Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice! Don't let yourself down! It is the innovation that we cannot afford to lose!
As we all know, pollution is harmful to living beings. There are manydifferent types of pollutions in this world. For instance, water pollution, airpollution, noise pollution and so on. Water pollution cause many kinds ofdisease that have negative effects on human beings, sometimes the diseases willtake people's life away. Dirty air will increase the rate of getting lungcancer. While the noise pollution will cause insomnia. People's health conditionwill be damaged.
In my humble opinion, people should take measures to control the pollution.Recently, not only the government, but also individual has taken part in theaction of protecting the environment. This is a good sign. Rivers are beingcleaned, air is purified, and the people come to realize that the importance ofprotecting the environment.
However, this is not enough, the problems are still exist. Not all of themhave been solved. Some factories are still pouring dirty water into the riversor give off the toxic gas into the sky. We should know that protecting theenvironment needs everybody's effort.
My mom is about 45 years old.She has long hair and very big eyes. She is ahousewife. She always helps me with my homework before she cleans the house andprepares dinner for my whole family. She is really a nice and kind mother.
My mom is always very reasonable. All she asks for is for me to complete myschoolwork. If I get a good mark on my test, she will be very happy. If I don'tdo well, she won't get angry. She will encourage me to do better next time.
I love my mom,so I give her a hug when I get home, and tell her she is thebest mom in the world.
Let me begin my speech with a replay of scenes familiar to most, if not all, of those present here today. “Mum, I'm sorry, but I need 3,000 yuan for my tuition this year.”
“Mum, it is my friend's birthday tomorrow, I must buy her a present.”
“Mum, this jacket was out of fashion long ago, would you do me a favor? ”
Take. Take. Take. The relationship between a mother and a child always seems to follow such a pattern. I know my mother is always there for me, providing me with everything I need; from food to clothing, from tuition to pocket money. I never thought twice about all she did until one day she said, “Will there be a time that you'll say you have taken enough from me? ”
Like a child endlessly asking, we humans, throughout history, have been continually demanding what we desire from nature. We enjoy the comfort and beauty of our furniture, yet we never bother to think about the serious soil erosion caused by deforestation. We take it for granted that we must warm ourselves in winter times, yet we seldom realize the burning away of precious natural resources. We appreciate all the prosperity from the development of modern industry, yet few would give the slightest consideration to the global air and water pollution caused by industrial wastes. Our ruthless exploitation has permanently impaired our mother earth. As we tragically learned from last summer's floods. we cannot continue our carelessness.
My high school headteacher teaches my English. He is handsome. And he is very thin for hardwork. He is about forty years old. He looks serious. But in fact, he is kind, nice and warmhearted.
On the one hand, he is serious on study. Whoever doesn’t finish the homework or cheat in the exam, he will punish him or her badly. Sometimes he will let those students do doble homework or have another exam. Sometimes he will ask those students write reports on that behavior.
But when teaching us in class, he is so patient. It’s the same when asking him questions. On the other hand, he will play with us after class. Meanwhile, if anyone has any difficuty in study or daily life, he will give a hand without hesitation.
All in all, we love our headteacher, though sometimes he is serious. We like his responsibility. We also appreciate his spirit to work for students heart and soul.
When to go to school every morning, see cars ing and going on the road, isa scene of the traffic。 See the rear of the discharge of so many black mass ofgas。 I thought: all the traffic, what kind of harm to our life? I took my doubtasked dad。 Dad told me: "is car emissions of carbon dioxide, it is harmful tothe nature and human beings, but the side of the road there are many trees canabsorb carbon dioxide, so we're going to take care of the trees。" Hear the wordof the father, I breath a sigh of relief。 Decide later to take good care oftrees, because it is our friend。
At our side, we also often see some uncivilized phenomenon: spitting, throwconfetti, waste water, and some pet owners, and let their baby or in publicplaces。 Our survival environment pollution。
So, in order to make our homes more beautiful, we all want to take care ofthe environment around, see the uncivilized phenomenon, be proactive to dissuadehim。 Also do it bit by bit from life。 In daily life, we should save waterelectricity, less with air conditioning, use energy-saving lamps。 When wetravel, if the distance is near, we can walk, if the distance, we can take thebus or the subway。 Don't litter, sundry。
If anyone can start from oneself, starts from the minor matter。 Low carbonlife, so, our home will bee more beautiful and harmonious。
e or disagree: Universities should abolish the practice of cutting off the electricity at dormitory at night.
I agree with it. As a student, I should say, university shouldn't cut off electricity at dormitory at night. The original intention for university to cut off electricity is to ensure our rest for some students will stay up very late if there is nothing to limit them. However, these students are minority. Most students have regular timetable. What more, we are now already in university, I think we should be treated like high school students any longer. Especially in summer hot days, no electricity at night would be a nightmare to all students. We can't fall asleep without electric fans. I can't just imagine that. Universities should think more for their students and trust their self-control.
say music training in college is unnecessary, while others do not believe so. What is your opinion on this issue?
I should say, music training in college is necessary, especially for non-art students. To be honest, nowadays?college students are also under much pressure. We have to attend many complex courses everyday. Many students get tired and gloomy. Then, if there is a music course, it will greatly release our bad mood. And we will have a nice mood and more energy to continue our study. Besides, it's commonly believed that music training can cultivate people's character. It will make people more calm and wise as well as elegant. In fact, nowadays, many parents send their children to attend music course at a very young age. These parents hope their children will have a elegant and smart mind. Many of today's students in university didn't have adequate music training at their former school. If university can open related music course, it will be of great use for students?cultivation.
In this day and age, environmental degradation presents great danger to thepublic. People in my country, and other places, have to bear polluted water andhaze day after day. As public awareness of the need for environmental protectiongrows in these countries, it is urgent to learn how to establish a green lifestyle.
To achieve a green life style, we must adjust our behavior. This can bedone even with simple things. For example, we could sort out our trash forbetter recycling. At home, we can use lights and other electricity only whenneeded. We should properly maintain air conditioners twice a year so they willrun efficiently, and, even more importantly, make sure doors and windows fitproperly and are sealed so that we can use less energy in heating and cooling.Other simple steps that make a big difference include using publictransportation instead of driving private cars.
Commuters can choose to take buses, subways or share cars with others, which not only relieves traffic jams but also reduces gas emission.
In my mind, it is high time to establish a general concept of sustainabledevelopment and green life style in China. The Earth has provided humans whatthey need; it is time to pay back. Only through a green life, can we ensure thatwe and our children live in an environment with green water and mountains, without traffic jams, and in an era with better living habits.
